Overview
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country. This initiative is part of the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to participate in upcoming elections.
The CVR is an ongoing process instituted by INEC to allow all eligible Nigerians who are not yet registered to do so at their convenience. It also allows those who need to update their information or transfer their voting location to do so without waiting for a last-minute rush before elections.
The primary goal is simple: to ensure that every eligible Nigerian citizen is given a fair opportunity to be enrolled in the national database of voters and to obtain their PVC.
Key Dates to Note
- Exercise Duration: August 18, 2025 – August 30, 2026
- Online Pre-registration: Monday, August 18, 2025
- Physical/In-person Registration: Monday, August 25, 2025
Who is Eligible for the CVR?
This exercise is for you if you fall into any of these categories:
1. New Voters: You are a Nigerian citizen who has just turned 18 years old.
2. Previously Unregistered: You were unable to register during the previous exercises.
3. Relocated: You have moved to a new location (a different state or local government) and need to transfer your registration to vote near your new home.
4. Lost or Damaged PVC: You have lost your PVC or it has become damaged and is unreadable.
5. Need to Correct Details: You have noticed errors in your registration data (e.g., misspelled name, wrong date of birth) and need to correct them.
How to Register
INEC has introduced a two-step registration process to ease congestion and improve efficiency:
1. Online Pre-registration
Eligible voters can begin the process from the comfort of their homes by visiting the official INEC CVR portal. This step captures basic information and schedules an appointment for biometric capture.
- Go to the INEC CVR portal: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org
- Create an Account: Provide a valid email address and phone number to set up your profile.
- Fill the Form: Complete the online application form with your accurate details, including your Biodata, Residence, and Origin.
- Upload Your Photo: A recent, clear passport photograph is required.
- Schedule an Appointment: Choose a date and time to visit your designated INEC state or local government office for the final step.
- Bring Your Print-Out: On your appointment day, bring the printed application summary sheet and any required original documents (e.g., birth certificate, age declaration) for verification.
2. In-person Biometric Capture
After completing the online pre-registration, applicants must visit a designated INEC State or Local Government office to complete their biometric registration. This step is mandatory to finalize the process. You can complete your registration at any of the 16 INEC offices in Kwara state.
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays)
Final Thoughts
As INEC commences this critical phase of electoral preparation, Kwarans are urged to seize the opportunity to register, update their records, and get ready to make their voices heard at the polls. Democracy thrives when everyone participates.
